There will be several improvements to the UICS website this year.
Practicing its mission to provide opportunities that promote personal empowerment, UICS offers cultural arts and enrichment programs for youth enrolled in St. Mark Child and Family Development Center and local youth in the community.
Before- and After-School
For the convenience of working parents, we offer ASHAE (After School Homework Arts Enrichment) for enrolled youth 5 years to 12 years during the academic year. School-ager’s participating in the before- and after-school program receives a nutritious breakfast and afternoon snack in a safe and nurturing environment. Students take part in structured activities including the creative arts and African dance and drumming. In addition, after-school activities teach self-esteem, mutual respect and understanding cultural similarities and differences.
Summer Camp
During the summer months, St. Mark school-agers join other area youth of all ages in a ten-week ASHAE summer cultural arts and enrich program for youth 6 years to 16 years. Campers are given the opportunity to experience multicultural activities through drama, music, dance, arts and crafts, and field trips. The arts are a fun and creative way to develop, enhance and encourage academic learning. Programs promote an atmosphere of trust that encourages children to further develop their personal and situational skills through new challenges, while having fun. Campers’ social development is nurtured through interactive activities that emphasize teamwork, sportsmanship, adaptability, self-control, and cooperation.
