Success Stories

Diane starts school Ready to Learn!
When three-year-old Diane enrolled in our center, teachers noticed that she had some problems keeping up with other the children in the class. Diane also exhibited extreme aggression towards her classmates. This was Diane’s third preschool and her mom was desperate, because she was a single parent, working two jobs to make ends meet.
Diane was eligible for Head Start and upon entering the St. Mark program, went through a comprehensive in-take process which involved assessing her physical, mental, cognitive, and dental health.
Working with Diane’s strengths, the classroom staff worked to bring Diane to grade level.
The Family Advocate worked with the parent to secure family counseling for her aggressive behavior.
Because Diane’s mom had her hands full with two other children, family counseling services were extended to the whole family.
At the completion of the school year, Diane was the lead in the spring production. Her reading ability amazed the standing room-only crowd. That was 3 years ago. Diane continues to excel in school. Each year, mom brings Diane’s grade card and reports she has been on the principal’s honor roll for the last three years.
Your contributions help children like Diane and her family receive early intervention services, so concerns can be addressed before kindergarten. Research shows that a child starting kindergarten on par with her peers is more likely to do well in school and graduate.
